In the Town of Montsonís
Cal Xeco is in the town of Montsonís, near from Artesa de Segre and Ponts, in the pre-Pyrenees of Lérida, under the protection of the mountain mass of Montsec. The region is La Noguera.
Some time ago, the house was part of the defensive wall that protected the fortress of Montsonís. As the centuries passed, this defensive wall became the walls of the houses that today constitute the town; nevertheless, there are still standing defensive towers that now have become wine or water "trullos" (containers), which remember us of that remote past. There is one of these towers just beside Cal Xeco.
In the case of Cal Xeco, when the "pairal" house of the family was restored, the owners decided to renovate two floors, and the result was a new little cosy house, with capacity for two persons, and with access totally independent of the rest of the house.
Montsonís has been constructed on a mountainside looking over the valley, the mountain mass of Montsec and further, the Pyrenees and their snow. The views offered by the houses of Montsonís are incredible; they make the time go slower and slower, to infinity. But if we want to be a little bit more active, a walk on its cobblestone-covered streets, between its medieval houses, and why not, a visit to the castle are good ideas. The owners of the castle live there and, during specific hours, they open the doors to anyone interested on visiting it.
